My lovely friend, Deborah came to see me while we were in Mississippi back in April. I still want to document this although a few months have passed.

I picked her up in Jackson on Wednesday and we went to a coffee shop of course.

We explored the Mississippi state capitol building. Senator Hobb gave us an inside look at the senate room and other “Senators only beyond this point” places.

I loved the marble, brass, and vintage lights- basically everything about the architecture. He told us how the lights were a brand new invention when it was built, and that’s why there were so many (4,750 according to Google).

We passed the old capitol where Mississippi seceded in 1861.

We got to the gulf in time for pizza and a sunset. Oh and so many seagulls that wanted our food. But still it will never get better than a sunset on the beach.

We stayed in a tiny Airbnb that was perfect for making a healthy breakfast and chilling after sitting on the beach all day.

A thrifted $2 throw made a sweet beach blanket. Also açaí by the water is that much better and does qualify as supper.

The best coffee shop in the neighborhood was Mockingbird Cafe in Bay St. Louis. The places around there are so cute too. We came on Friday and parking was $7 I think and Saturday it was $20! We made our hours worth it both times by walking through a flea market and cemetery.

It was so very lovely to take Deborah’s photos on the beach. I need her to live close to me so she can always be my model.

The self timer photos with the wind were challenging but all you really need is one good picture!

While I’d always to be the one with the camera and never have to pose, I’m so glad she took these for me 🤍

Our Friday ended with a chilly sunset dinner on the bay.

We had high hopes of waking up for the sunrise on our last day but somehow when I woke up it was bright and 8:00 am. Honestly the sunsets we got were perfect and we needed that sleep. After Waffle House, cider on the beach, and more coffee we headed back to Columbia.

Sunday afternoon we went to the park by the river and the abandoned playground was eerie.

Monday noon we got ChaCha’s custard with mom and then headed to Jackson. Native Coffee had the best croissants since NYC. And a friendly barista who could have been swayed to be Deborah’s carryon item on the flight home 🤭

How blessed am I to have someone who takes time out of her life to spend with me. The weekend was filled with walks, laughter, good talks, great food, and so many new memories. I can’t wait to do it again.
