Good morning friend, I hope you are enjoying the summer sunshine. I know I am, but I’m nearly ready for fall now. Even through this heatwave, I’m doing my best to enjoy life ; )

Big Boy Steam Engine

The largest operating steam locomotive in the world (I believe it’s the largest) came to our little town on July 11. We joined the excitement of seeing this monstrosity.

Mom and I arrived in plenty of time to get a nice spot to watch, or so we thought.

Practically half of Oroville was there! Well, not quite but it felt close.

We found a nice place to watch it arrive, with the bell and horn announcing their coming.

Have I failed to mention the atrocious temperature? I think the high that day was 114 degrees, but being on the pavement with 999 other people made it worse.
I enjoy a pleasant 95 degree day, but this was just intense. We had water along and were able to retreat under a kind man’s shade tent for a short time; so that helped.

It was truly an experience; and the history of Union Pacific is interesting.

I felt bad for the crew having to be in the heat like that! But they looked like they were still enjoying themselves somewhat 😅

After a half hour whistle stop, off it went for another town. We hurried back to our vehicle ( I hurried, Mom talked to all the people she knew, and a few strangers) to beat some of the traffic.

I took this sweaty opportunity to convince mom that we needed Dutch Bros 😄

she read while we waited ; )

We rushed home to our cool house, showered, and relaxed the rest of the day.

Grass Valley

Abi graciously booked a photo shoot at a lavender farm for the youth girls. Sadly, a few were sick that day, so they couldn’t be there.
The remaining seven of us ventured off Friday afternoon.

Unfortunately, the season was almost over, so the color and bloom weren’t as vibrant. But I still liked how the pictures turned out.

I took a few little props along for us to use.

It was warm that evening too, so we didn’t linger long.

We found refreshment at a cute candy and ice cream shop(I chose huckleberry. Yummyyy)

The people, buildings, and history of the town were charming and sweet; and made me want to come back to explore more.

Evenings spent with friends are always great ♥️

If you have the chance, organize a fun summer outing with your friends. Choose a new spot to explore, find good food, and enjoy yourselves.
Happy Friday,
